For years I have wanted a instant camera, when I was about 9 a relative was visiting us from America and she took a photograph of me and gave it straight to me and I watched the ink come through, the picture taking place before my eyes, I just thought “This is so cool!” and I knew that one day I would have to own one.
For a while the instant cameras were really hard to come by and the replacement film cards were expensive and hard to get hold of but recently I have seen them popping up everywhere and thought it was about time I indulged in my 9 year old self’s dream.
I picked up the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S from Tesco as it was offer on for £59.00 instead of £69.00 and came with 10 shots already. I know they have just released the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 however it was out of stock everywhere in white and I didn’t fancy any of the colours. After a lot of research on different places that stocked them I actually discovered that apart from the size (the 8 is slightly smaller) they are the same.
I decided to go for white as although I liked some of the colours, I knew I would get bored and therefore white was a safer choice. It is more of a off white, ever so slightly cream spectrum but still looks amazing.
This camera is so easy to set up, you slot the batteries in on the side and just pop the film in the back and you’re good to go. It has four settings to ensure you get the best exposure in your pictures. The house is for indoor use, the cloud is for outside use when it’s really cloudy, the sun with little rays is for half cloudy half sun and the big sun is for no clouds. All you do is slide the dial to the correct one.
To turn it on and off you just pull the lens out. It’s so easy to use! Once you take your shot, I love seeing it slide out the top and watching the picture develop.
As you can see from the above picture, it is quite big and bulky but they always are. I’m on the hunt for a case now as I’ve already scratched the bottom and I’m keeping it in the bubblewrap that it came in. The camera takes the mini film pack and they sell some with decorative boarders as well which look quite cute. I’ve already taken 8 photographs and need to buy a replacement pack soon but after a lot of searching I’ve found that Curry’s is the cheapest place as you get 20 shots for £14.99.
I’m so glad I got this camera, it’s perfect for day trips and I recently took it to Colchester Zoo with me. The pictures also look lovely mounted on a journaling card and slotted into my Project Life album. I can’t wait to take more photographs, I’m looking forward to capturing some cute shots this summer. My dream of always wanting to own one is now complete!
Have you ever wanted an instant camera? Will you buying one?
