Over the past couple of months I have found my new obsession, lip liners. I’ve gone from a lipstick-loathing-can’t-be-dealing-with-it girl to needing to own all nude/ “my lips but better” shades and an uncontrollable need to own every lip liner I come across. It’s safe to say I do need some LLT – Lip Liner Therapy. I have discovered two different high street brands that are brilliant but today I shall be talking about just one of them, Max Factor Colour Elixir Lip Liners.
I adore the US brand Covergirl and although I have been told numerous times that Max Factor is our Covergirl, I just didn’t fancy it. I never really shopped at the Max Factor counter, only ever repurchasing one foundation that I loved, it’s a brand I completely overlooked. However, ever since I found out that it was in actual fact Max Factor himself who was the first person ever to makeover Norma Jeane into the iconic and down right gorgeous Marilyn Monroe – Swoon! I took that as a sign to get my butt over to the nearest counter.
The lip liners come in 6 different shades and I own 4 of them, obsessive much? For just £4.99 I think they are a steal and such great quality. The packaging is so pretty and simple but looks a lot more luxurious than that of a high street product. I love how the lids are clear so you can see which colour you are looking at and also the colour on the bottom is that of the lip liner. Very handy when you have loads of products floating about in your beauty drawers.
Mauve Moment – A gorgeous plum toned liner, this is one of my favourite shades. It looks so pretty on my skin tone and even though I have quite pigmented lips naturally, it gives a great wash of colour and is really pigmented in itself. This shade matches perfectly with the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in the shade Rosewood, they look great together.
Pink Petal – The only shade I am not pleased with. The colour on the end of the liner looks like a soft pink shade however once swatched on me and on my lips it is in fact a nude shade and washes me out completely. Saying that, it will be perfect for when I need a clean crisp line when using a dark lipstick. If unlike me you can pull off nude shades, this one is great when paired with NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in the shade Nude Peach Fuzz.
Pink Princess – This is the ultimate girly shade. A soft muted pink, it’s similar to Mauve Moment but not as deep. My favourite shade, this can be worn any time throughout the day and still look as though you’ve made an effort at nighttime as well. It’s by far my favourite shade out of the bunch. A new discovery duo, this shade looks gorgeous with MAC Chatterbox lipstick.
Red Rush – I wore this shade for Valentine’s Day as it’s the perfect red shade with a blue undertone, the kind that makes your teeth appear whiter. I’ve been on the hunt for a great red shade for so long now, they always seemed more on the orange toned side and it doesn’t suit me whereas this shade does. You can see below on the right, this is the lip liner all over, it’s just gorgeous. I wore this on Valentine’s Day paired with a Rimmel Apocalips in the shade Big Bang and my lipstick stayed for most of the night, even with all the wine and eating
These lip liners are utterly gorgeous and I love the formula. They are so creamy to apply, don’t go all patchy like most liners and aren’t drying in the slightest. There’s no dragging on the lips and they don’t feather either. I always apply a lip balm before applying my lipstick but I tested them out without and have found that’s not necessary because the formula is so great. Although Pink Petal was a little disappointing because it didn’t look like the real shade, I will still get some use out of it. Super long lasting, amazing application, they are a fab find and definitely worth a look at when you next pass a Max Factor counter.
What’s your favourite lip liner brand? Have you tried these?
