China Glaze – Shell-O | Review & Swatches

Winter is finally behind us, Horray!! Spring is well and truly here, well looking outside my window right now it’s grey and dull but I hope sun will be shinning soon. I love wearing dark shades on my nails during Autumn/Winter and brights and pastels throughout Spring/Summer. I’ve been searching for some bright neon type shades to wear and I haven’t been able to spot any until now.

Shell-O by China Glaze got my attention immediately on the BeautyBay website and after googling swatches and liking what I saw I decided to buy it. I’m always a bit dubious when ordering a nail polish shade from them now as I was very let down when I recently bought Aquadelic. On their website and online swatches it looks a bright almost neon blue, however in reality it’s just a darker bluer version of Essie Mint Candy Apple so it’s safe to say I was more than a little bit disappointed. When I received Shell-O the worry washed away and I loved what I saw. It’s a bright neon /coral with a pink undertone that looks stunning in the bottle and on the nails. I’m happy to tell you that the photographs above are exact swatches of the colour, it really is that bright and neon looking, it’s amazing.

Now there is a downside to this nail polish, it takes forever to apply. Well not forever, that would be ridiculous but it took me about an hour to do it all properly. When you apply the polish onto clean nails (with a base coat) it’s so sheer you can’t really see anything. I had to apply two coats of a white polish first and then four coats of Shell-O to get it this vibrant and non-streaky. I waited a couple of minutes between each coat and then sealed it all in with a top coat. It’s safe to say you then can’t do anything at all for a couple of hours for risk of smudging it all and there is so much faffing around but I loved the outcome.

It actually lasted four full days until I noticed the first big chip, I re-applied two nails fully and it lasted a further two days. I have to say I am impressed with the longevity and the fact that it doesn’t stain your nails afterwards which is great. Although there’s a lot of fuss to actually apply it, I do love this colour so much and love how long it latest. This shade will be perfect in the Summertime and China Glaze are quickly becoming one of my favourite nail polish brands now, Barry M is still on top though.

Have you tried any China Glaze polishes? Which shades are your favourite?
