When contouring first came about I wasn’t interested at all, I’d highlight areas on my face and that was it, now I own so many products I have to rotate them. I will use some form of a contouring product on a daily basis and I will intensify it if I’m going out on a very very rare occasion. I have a nice selection of powder and cream products and thought I would share with you some of my favourites.
I have always needed to highlight my under eye areas and I’ve used a few in my time however one that has stood out to me is the L.A Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer* in the shade Porcelain as it really brightens my under eyes without creasing. It’s quite a thick concealer but doesn’t appear caky and is great for highlighting other areas of the face as well.
A cream highlighter that is just beautiful is the Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Fix in the shade Gold Light which has a golden tone to it, there is also a more rosy toned one which I also want to pick up. This is beautiful if you want a dewy, fresh skin look as it’s really quite natural. You have to be careful with it as I’ve found it does disturb your base product sometimes but gentle tapping does the trick. Such a pretty colour and will be perfect for Spring/Summer.
Finally onto my absolute favourite highlighter ever, MAC Soft & Gentle, I don’t think you can even write a highlighting post and not mention it. Such a stunning highlighter that offers the wow factor, it can be super subtle with a light hand but for a more intense look you can easily build it up. It’s so light on the skin and works so well just on it’s own to just brighten the skin, it’s a beautiful product.
The Sleek Cream Contour Kit* was on my wishlist for a long time, I was after a cream kit to really help sculpt out those cheekbones on the days I wanted a more intense look and this one is perfect. A couple of the light shades work really well to highlight the under eyes and other areas of the face and the second darkest shade works really well for me as a contour. Although these are all slightly on the warm side, the last two darkest shades are less warm and I can pull them off better. You don’t need a lot as they are so pigmented and a little goes a long way.
My favourite cream contour & highlighting product hands down (and the one I always opt for 9 times out of 10) is the Maybelline Master Contour in the shade Light, it is the perfect cool-toned contour shade for my skin type, I love it. It looks so natural on the skin, it blends in really well and it lasts all day for me. The light shade is really brightening and both products sit really well on top of base products without moving anything, I love this contour stick and I will buy it for many years to come. It’s the only high-street cool-toned contour product that I have found.
I bought the Collection Precision Contour after hearing a YouTuber say how amazing it was and although the tube looks like it will be a cool-tone, again it’s more on the warmer end of the spectrum but it’s not as warm as the Sleek kit. It does blend nicely and sit well on top of other makeup but it’s not as long lasting for me. It’s a great affordable option but if you are willing to spend that little extra, I would recommend the Maybelline Master Contour instead.
I’m so glad I received the Kat Von D Shade & Light Face Contour palette for Christmas as it’s such a lovely product. Sombre is my favourite shade and the one I use the most. For every day use I will switch between a cream or powder product but if I want a more intense contour then I will use both finishing with this powder palette. I love how well it blends into the skin and the powders are so soft. I have written a full post on this palette here if you want to read a more in depth review.
PIN IT! PIN IT! PIN IT!There are so many options available now that it can become a little overwhelming when it comes to deciding what to buy. There are still a lot of other products I want to try such as the Rodial Instaglam Contour Powder as it looks like such a beautiful shade and also the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow is a must for me this year.
