Winter for me is the worst season for my skin, although it’s my favourite season in general it doesn’t suit my dry skin and therefore just makes things worse. Not only is my skin effected but also my lips suffer as well. I have a thing for lip balms and thought I would share some of the ones that work for me best.
THE PREP
There are quite a few lip scrubs on the market now but I still use my old faithful Bubblegum scrub from Lush. This tastes amazing, although you’re not really supposed to sit and eat it…But it’s a great scrub and it gets the job done. Buffing away all the dryness to leave a smooth base ready for the hydration of a balm and prepped for creating the perfect lip with your favourite lip colour.
THE BASIC BALM
For when you’re out and about a stick balm works best as they are easy, convenient and there’s no mess involved. I have loved the Maybelline Hydrate BabyLips balm since it was first released in the US and I have gone on to repurchase it at least four times now. If you have really dry lips in the day and they feel tight and rough and want to hydrate them without them feeling sticky or horrid, this is the balm for you. It’s great for constant use for extra hydration but also lasts a long time if you only to apply it every couple of hours. Oh, and it smells incredible, so fruity.
Carmex is a brand I have been using since I was a teenager, I’ve always bought the Cherry pot but this stick version is so much easier for day to day use. The Classic Carmex lip Balm* is simple with no thrills (although the vanilla sounds so lovely) but it gets the job done. They contain menthol which soothe the lips, camphor oil to help with dry chapped lips and beeswax to help hydrate and smooth. I love how these feel on the lips and they also smell amazing.
PIN IT!THE TINT
For days when you want hydration with a hint of colour but don’t want to wear a lipstick, the Carmex Sheer Tint Lip Balms are perfect for you. I have the Berry Tint* which is a lovely soft red shade which on me looks really natural and just emphasises my natural lip shade more. The thin balm makes application really easy and the formula is just as brilliant as the other Carmex products.
PIN IT!THE INTENSE BALM
Starting off with a cult favourite, the NUXE Rêve de Miel Honey Lip Balm is a firm favourite when it comes to super intense hydration. A lip balm that can be used at any time of the day but overnight works wonders if you want to really get the full benefits of this balm. I would say though, you don’t need to be vigorous with this balm, just a thin layer is required for it to work it’s magic, anymore and you end up with a strange film on the lips come morning. However a light layer will leave your lips feeling super smooth, hydrated and ready for anything.
Finally, a balm that most probably wouldn’t put in the intense category but for me it really packs a punch. The Nivea Vanilla & Macadamia Lip Butter is not only is this the best smelling lip balm I’ve ever had the pleasure of sniffing, but it’s such a good balm that it’s saved even the most driest of lips that I have ever occurred. It really is amazing, I only wish they had it available in stick form which would be so convenient for on the go.

I know your winter lip pain! I’ve used the carmex balm and lush scrub before, too. This year I even started using a lip mask. Bite agave masks are the best I’ve tried and smell delicious!

For some reason I was quite disappointed when I tried out Carmex lip balms for the first time – I’d heard so many great things about it that it didn’t live up to my expectations! On the other hand, the Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm is my absolute favourite. It just makes the lips so soft and moisturised, plus as you said you only need a thin layer so it lasts for ages – well worth the investment!

LUSH lip scrubs win hands down for me. I’ve tried another couple of lip scrubs on the market but none give quite as good results nor do they taste or smell as good.
