Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette

When contouring first came about I wasn’t interested at all, I didn’t have any products in my stash that I could use and I didn’t want to buy anything for it. But much like everything else in the beauty world, the more it got talked about the more I wanted in on this new trend. I wasn’t sure if I could even pull it off but slowly I started to buy some pieces to try out and little did I know that I would become hooked on it. I don’t go out without doing some form of contouring now and I have accumulated quite a few different products.

For Christmas my mum bought me the Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette, a product that I had seen a lot over the past months. Although there’s a lot of hype around other products such as the Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Series Contour Kit, the shades in the Kat Von D palette just looked like they would suit me better. I love a grey-toned cool contour, I feel it suits my skin a lot better than warm toned and this palette looked promising.

PIN IT!The packaging is very nice and sleek but I fear will get completely ruined over the coming months, hello foundation hands! However it’s not as bad as NARS packaging as that just doesn’t come off even when you clean it, this can be cleaned up at least. It’s nice and weighty so it feels more luxurious and the magnet is quite strong so it should stay closed during traveling. Finally, it has a big mirror that’s the width of the lid which is always handy, especially on the go.

Shade wise the palette consists of three lighter shades; Levitation, Lyric and Lucid and then three contour shades; Subconscious, Shadowplay and Sombre. Sombre is definitely a lovely cool toned shade and this is the colour I use when I contour. I also use Lyric on my under eyes as it looks more of a yellow toned powder and this is great for colour correcting the under eye area. They are all really pigmented shades, especially the darker shades so you definitely need a light hand to apply these.

The powders are very soft and buttery and blend in beautifully but there is a lot of kick-up in the pan with even the slightest dab of my brush, but that’s not really anything to judge it by, it can just get a little messy. I use the Spectrum C07 brush from the Marble Sculpt Set which is the perfect size for fitting underneath your cheekbones and it doesn’t pack on too much product.

PIN IT!PIN IT!The three lightest tones will work as normal setting powders as my skin gets more tanned in summer which will be really useful. I will probably also get use out of Shadowplay at some point as well but Subconscious I don’t think I will ever use as it’s just too dark but it does have a lovely cool tone to it, it could work as an eye shadow for a brown smokey eye so I may try that instead.

I have a very slight cheekbone already and these powders emphasize that so much more, my jaw line isn’t very prominent so contouring this area really helps and looks nice and natural with a light hand, they don’t appear cakey and they also don’t feel chalky. Wear time for me was great, they lasted really well on my skin and as mentioned above I found that the powders blended in nicely.

PIN IT!I think this is a great palette if you’re really into your contouring, it’s a good item to have in your collection and I’m glad I finally own it. Now Kat Von D is readily available from Debenhams I can’t wait to try more from her brand, her liquid lipsticks look incredible and I can’t wait to give them a try at some point.

Have you tried the Shade & Light Contour Palette? What are your thoughts on it?
