I’ve had ombré in my hair a couple of times now and you may think it a bit odd to do it for Winter since it’s more of a summery hairstyle however I needed a change. I’d had all my long hair cut off in the summer which didn’t go to plan as my hair just doesn’t do anything short and since I couldn’t style it I wore my hair up most days for months. I was undecided as to whether I should give bleaching my hair another go but I finally gave in. Having bleached hair looks nice but it’s a pain to maintain it’s healthiness and the right tones.
I always do my own hair as I just can’t afford salon prices, I don’t see getting my hair done in the salon as a “beauty treat” I hate sitting there for hours staring at my reflection, I find it to be a chore and when I was quoted £170 for a cut and ombré colour I decided to always do it myself. Last year when I did it I was too impatient and just re-did it a couple of days later which absolutely killed my hair and made it become like straw, it was so brittle and such a mess. This time I made sure to leave at least 3-4 weeks before I did it again. I have only ever used the Bleach London Dip Dye Kit as they are the only ones that seem to actually bleach your hair and although they are fiddly, you get amazing results. In-between the bleaching I did use the Bleach London White Toner which looked great for a week or so and then it washed off really quickly, it’s supposed to last 15-20 washes but it didn’t for me, I didn’t even get to about 8 washes.
The results above are after two bleaching sessions and the following haircare routine. I know it’s not super blonde and bright but I like the golden tone that it has, it’s not yellow or orange and it’s still in amazing condition and feels so smooth, I am overdue a haircut and it still feels pretty great. I personally love the colour, I’m very happy with it. There are slightly lighter parts throughout which create a nice highlight and I managed to blend it quite well. Getting the gradient is the hardest part about doing it yourself as you don’t want any harsh lines, I was worried when the bleach was on but once it was dry it was actually fine and this time around, the ombré has turned out so much better.
To keep yellow and brassy tones at bay I use the PRO:VOKE Liquid Blonde Colour Care Shampoo & Conditioner*, the PRO:VOKE Liquid Blonde Colour Activating Shampoo* & Intense Shine Conditioner* on rotation. These protect your coloured hair by keeping it nourished and moisturised. They also tackle the horrible tones to leave your hair glossy, bright and vibrant. Every time I use either of these products I instantly notice a difference in the colour, my hair just looks less dull and so much healthier. I will be writing a full review on the Liquid Blonde line so keep an eye out for that.
Whilst my hair is wet I use the Garnier Ultimate Blends Heat Protection Milk as it’s a great detangler and it also protects your hair from any heat. It smells amazing and it leaves my hair feeling super soft. Sometimes I do use the Aussie Miracle Recharge Hair Insurance which is a leave-in conditioner, it keeps the hair soft and smooth but it doesn’t provide protection from heat products like the Garnier one.
Also on wet hair I use the Klorane Mango Butter Nourishing Leave-In Cream* which smells so amazing but benefits my hair the most. I apply a generous amount to the ends of my hair that are bleached and just leave my hair to dry naturally. It really helps bring my hair back to life, give it some moisture again and leave it feeling soft and smooth. The product promises to repair split ends and over long-term use prevent any further splitting and I really feel like it is doing that to my hair.
And finally, once I have styled my hair I have started to use a fairly new addition. By new I mean only used three times but it’s changed the way my hair looks at the end. I wanted something that could keep my ends super smooth and shiny once I had styled it and I suddenly remembered that I had relieved a 30ml bottle of the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse* in my M&S Beauty Advent Calendar. I applied a tiny amount onto the very ends of my hair and it just made them so soft and smooth. In the photos I feel like you can see just how shiny the ends are, my hair feels so good when I’ve applied this and I will use it every single time I style my hair now.
If you have colour treated hair I recommend all these products and if you don’t, the last three are still perfect for keeping your hair in excellent condition. I’m so glad I have been able to try these brands as they’ve worked wonders for my hair, it finally curls exactly how I want it to and I’ve gotten my hair confidence back, it’s been a long time since I have actually liked my hair and it feels great to love it again.
Have you tried any of these products?
