Back in June I shared some of my favourite matte lip products for the summertime, check out the post here, but as soon as the darker evenings start rolling in and the wind turns colder I love swapping out my lighter colours for deep dark shades. This year I’ve found a lot of new lip colours that I would’t usually wear but I’ve decided to try new things outside of my comfort zone and I’m loving the results. Today I will be sharing my winter lip favourites.
Most of the lip products featured in this post have come from NYX as I’ve found they have the best selection of formulas and shades available. I mentioned a while back that my Boots stocked NYX however they didn’t have the Lingerie line that I really wanted to try, I can now report that they finally do stock them and so far have picked one up to try. I will be going back for more.
Featured above are the shades that I would never usually choose to wear. Although I love colours like these, I always thought they didn’t suit me or I knew I would feel uncomfortable wearing them but I’ve decided that to just buy the shades I want. I have found a couple of people talking to my lips when I’ve worn Brooklyn Thorn and Kooky but these two shades are actually my favourite now and I don’t feel uncomfortable at all when wearing any of these.
Kooky by MUA is a beautiful dark purple that isn’t your usual deep berry or plum, it’s much more vibrant which is why I love it. Vintage by NYX isn’t that usual from the normal shades I would wear this time of year, it’s just a bit more vibrant. Such a pretty colour and I love the formula of the Liquid Suede lipsticks, they finish matte but aren’t drying at all, more like a velvet finish that doesn’t budge. NYX Embellishment is from the Lingerie line and my favourite colour out of the ones available, I knew I wanted it from just looking at swatches online and funnily enough it was the shade I gravitated towards first before knowing what it was called. A slightly drier formula than the rest in this post but a beautiful soft colour, the best way I can describe it is as a nude with a purple/lilac undertone. It doesn’t seem to show up very well on my lips in the photo but in person it is more noticeable. NYX Brooklyn Thorn is the most out there colour I own and my absolute favourite. It’s like a dark lilac/brown shade that I never thought I could pull off but I think it suits me quite well, I love how plump it makes my lips look.
Finally, the last four shades are more like the normal berry shades that you find this time of year. Maybelline Possessed Plum, NYX Copenhagen and Sleek Velvet Slipper are all similar in terms of colour, Possessed Plum and Copenhagen are very similar and both offer a slightly glossier finish whereas Velvet Slipper is a true matte and one of the hardest shades to remove as it stays put so increidbly well. And last but not least, the most nude shade of the group is NYX Soft-Spoken which is the perfect nude shade for a natural lip.
I don’t think I will ever get bored of liquid lipsticks, they are just so convenient for long-wear, easy to apply and the colour options are endless, especially from NYX. I’m hoping to try a couple from Milani soon as they look gorgeous, any brand that offers matte liquid lipsticks that I haven’t tried before I instantly add them to my wishlist, a girl can never have too many right?
