SensatioNail

I’ve always been a nail polish lover, at a previous job I was known for having painted nails and people would ask what shade I was wearing that day. Painted nails make me feel slightly more put together and finish off an outfit. Spring and Summer colours are fun and pretty but it’s the nude and darker deep shades that I love to wear. Since having George having nice nails for a long time is a thing of the past. I don’t know how many times I would quickly do them while he was napping only for him to wake up when they were done and then instantly get smudged so I didn’t bother doing them for a long time.

Thankfully my friend (sister-in-law to be) started doing gel nails and I love getting them done, mainly for special occasions and it’s a nice little pamper for me while George plays with his cousin. When I was asked if I would like to try the SensatioNail* I instantly said yes, I’m not going to stop getting them done by my friend but now in between instead of normal polish I pretty much just use this as the colours last so much longer and it’s so convenient.

SensatioNail do offer starter kits that are solely gel products however the one I have is Polish to Gel Transformer kit which is such a brilliant idea. You don’t need to go out and buy loads of different gel polishes, you just use your normal polishes at home and use the polish to gel top coat.

In the box you get a small gel cleanser, gel primer and a normal size polish to gel, lint-free wipes, mixing pot, double sided nail buffer, manicure stick and finally the LED lamp. You get quite a bit for your money however the only little downside I found was that it didn’t contain a nail polish remover. I only use acetone-free so had to go and buy one specially for removing gel nails. It would have been nice if the kit contained a little post of remover as well but that’s my one and only gripe.

There are two different methods when using this kit, you can either mix equal parts of the polish to gel and your own nail polish and then apply or you can just apply your normal nail polish as you usually would and then use the polish to gel as a top coat. After testing out both ways I can share my thoughts on which is easier and lasts better etc.

Mixing Method
Obviously this is a lot more time consuming and more like the method that’s used in a salon, minus the mixing of polish. Once you’ve mixed up your formula you then have to cure each layer and also cure a separate layer of the polish to gel top coat. It’s a bit fiddly but if you have the time it’s worth it as it’s obviously going to last a lot longer. I didn’t experience any tackiness or smudging with this way and loved the look of my nails afterwards. This method lasted me about a week, up until then I didn’t have any noticeable chipping at all until towards the end of the week. The finish looked brilliant and definitely my choice when I have some extra time to spare.

Over Normal Polish
Personally I prefer this method as it’s just easier as I don’t need to muck about with mixing them together. It says in the instructions to leave to cure under the LED lamp for 15 seconds however I had a better result when leaving it for 30 seconds. With only 15 seconds it felt tacky to touch, smudged a little and wasn’t very shiny. 30 seconds didn’t create any of those problems. Wear time for me is about 5 days, if I have a better nail polish underneath it can easily last longer. I much prefer this method and so happy I can make my normal polishes last a lot longer.

This kit costs £49.99 and it’s also available from Boots, I think it’s such a great idea that you can now get salon nails in the comfort of your own home with minimal effort. Although the mixing method is a bit of a chore it’s worth it for when I have a little extra time on my hands. This kit is utterly brilliant, it’s definitely an investment piece but the products inside will last quite a while until you need to start replacing them. Salon worthy nails whilst sitting in my pj’s? Yes please!

I have the Sensationail Gel Starter Kit and I adore it, since receiving mine I have bought 4 gel polishes and a gel glitter top coat polish, I gel my eldest daughters nails and my sisters nails too and I obviously do my own too, it is so much better not having to wait for them to dry. I get 2 weeks wear out of my nails when I have them gelled which is fabulous and I only remove it because of re growth. I do find the Sensationail products expensive to buy though, but instead of the cleanser I have found that using IPA which I buy to spot clean my makeup brushes works better than the cleanser, my nails are much shinier, and I buy the lint free wipes from ebay for 900 wipes it’s only a couple of pounds, I just need to find some cheaper polishes now xxxx
