Matte Lips

For someone who doesn’t wear a lot of lip products I sure have jumped on the matte lip band wagon. Not only do I own a silly amount, I bought seven in one week….*shakes head* The allure of only having to apply once and the vast amount of products available have just sucked me in. In this post I will be sharing a quick run down of all 8 matte lip products.

If you look at any makeup brand, be it high-end or high-street the majority have dabbled in some kind of matte lip product. The high-street brands for sure have all done their take on a matte lip product. Some are serious mattes that don’t budge once applied and others are a little bit more forgiving in that they stay a tiny bit glossier or have a slight sheen.

For the people that love a slightly less stiff matte, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour’s are great. I love the packaging of these and the product actually smells amazing, like vanilla frosting. I have the shade Devotion and in the tube it looks like a pink however in the swatch and in person it definitely has a more peachy tone to it. Regardless, it’s a lovely shade and the formula is brilliant. Considering it’s slightly more shiny, it lasts really well.

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquids are another brand that don’t dry as a full on matte, they have a creamier finish to them and they also have great staying power. Nude Flush is your typical nude shade thats great for everyday wear and Possessed Plum is a vampy dark berry shade. I like to pair mine with MAC Currant lip liner otherwise it appears slightly patchy but does look amazing once it’s set.

Finally, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream’s are just divine. It dries a bit more than the above products but still has a bit of a sheen to it, a semi-matte if you will. The colour Copenhagen is just so gorgeous, a deep dark plum, although in the swatch it looks more berry, it’s definitely the shade of the tube and it’s perfect for the A/W seasons. It lasts so well on the lips and doesn’t apply patchy or streaky.

The following shades are for the serious full on matte lip goers and my ultimate favourites. The H&M Velvet Lip Cream was my first matte lip purchase and what actually kick-started my obsession. The shade Enchanté immediately caught my eye as it’s the most beautiful pinky nude. It dries completely matte but isn’t drying in the slightest. It wore on my lips really well even with eating and drink. I love this line and I will be going back for a darker share for the A/W seasons.

I chose Tea & Cookies from the new NYX Liquid Suede line and it’s a stunning pinky peach. Although it’s a suede it does dry to a matte finish but has a little more give than the rest of the full on matte lipsticks. I love this colour and like the others, it stayed put so well. They have a decent variety of shades to chose from and no doubt I will end up picking up another couple.

Finally I have my favourite finds and they are from Sleek. I stumbled across these and I am so glad that I did. I chose two shades from their Matte Me line, Birthday Suit which is a typical nude but with a slight peachy undertone and Shabby Chic which is a darker pinky nude. Now, these seriously do not budge, I have such a hard time removing them and trying to remove the arm swatch left my arm all red. They don’t feel drying on the lips at all however after a lot of eating and drinking I found they became a bit flaky but the colour still stayed, which is odd but a good result.

All these products wear really well, they aren’t drying and they can all be applied with ease and with multiply layers. If you’re looking for a matte lip product to try, I highly recommend at least one of these shades. My ultimate “go to” shades are definitely Enchanté by H&M and Shabby Chic by Sleek, they are beautiful. I still hope to try the NYX Lingerie Lipsticks, however I think I need to restrain myself in the matte lipstick department for a while.

Are you a fan of the matte lip? Which shade/product do you recommend?
