I see a lot of posts floating around about TV shows that you need to watch but they always include the same shows, Pretty Little Liars, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black etc, all of these I do in fact watch myself. To say I watch a lot of TV shows is an understatement, I spend most of my time catching up with missed episodes and want to share the shows that don’t get talked about a lot but are brilliant and deserve more attention.
Z Nation – A SyFy channel original series, this is great if you’re a fan of the zombie shows/movies. A very comical zombie fest but still gruesome, it’s a lot less light-hearted than The Walking Dead and great to pass the time if you’re bored one day. A bit on the plot, a guy is given a trial vaccine dose and then gets attacked by zombies. He survives and a group of survivors have the mission of getting him safety across the country to a medical lab. Each episode has a different storyline whilst the main plot is in the background.
Supernatural – I’ve been watching this since it was first released when I was 15. Two brothers fighting supernatural beings, it has drama, horror and comedy, not to mention really good looking main characters. It doesn’t take itself too serious with the added humour, the 80’s rock soundtrack and Chevy Impala 67 are added bonuses which make it just as much a girls programme as a guys. I know so many men who love this show, it’s one the boyfriend will approve of!
Rizzoli & Isles – A light-hearted cop show with added comedy, it’s the TV adaptation of the Tess Gerritsen book series. I’ve read the books (they are one of my favourite series) and although the storyline isn’t the same after the first couple of episodes, it’s still a great watch and I love the main two characters.
Scream – A TV show lightly based off of the late Wes Craven’s horror classic film “Scream.” Although the horror genius had nothing to do with the TV show it’s still a great watch with twists, gore and a great storyline. It’s just finished it’s first season and I can’t wait for it to come back.
Scream Queens – A brand new series that has only just started, I’ve seen peoples tweets about it and must say it’s a hit or miss programme. Written by the creator of Glee and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy, it’s a total tongue-in-cheek horror fest with gore and over the line comedy that includes a lot of “Did they really just say that?” moments. I love that he pushes the boundaries with his comedy in both Scream Queens and Glee. Quick cover of the plot, a sorority is targeted by a deranged killer and someone dies every single episode. It’s supposed to be cheesy and it’s supposed to be ridiculous and I love it.
Chicago Fire – I am obsessed with this programme and I’m waiting patiently for it to return. Based in a fire house in Chicago, there’s lots of action and drama and very hunky men – Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer….! I love the fast-paced action that really gets me on the edge of my seat, it’s such a brilliant programme.
Chicago P.D – This is a spin-off from Chicago Fire and I can’t decide which show I love more, they are both amazing. It’s exactly the same, fast-paced action packed drama based in a police precinct in Chicago. Sophia Bush is amazing in it and I love when they do over-lapping episodes with the characters from Chicago Fire.
Karl Pilkington: The Moaning of Life – This programme will be a total marmite show, love it or hate it. I love Karl Pilkington, he’s Ricky Gervais’ best friend and after watching The Ricky Gervais Show on repeat, it’s safe to say we are obsessed. Karl doesn’t think like any other person, his brain works in a strange way which makes his shows hilarious to watch. Such an easy watch but be warned, he can be irritating at first but give it time, you will learn to love KP.
And finally, one show to miss –
Fear the Walking Dead – I love The Walking Dead, I think it’s brilliant and I was so excited about the spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead. It’s based in LA before the outbreak, so when Rick was in hospital in Atlanta and I expected it to be an action packed zombie fest. Sadly, it’s the most boring TV show I have watched in a long time. The 6 episode season was too long, that’s how boring it was. Nothing really happened, it still doesn’t explain anything and I’m not bothered if I watch the next season or not. Seriously, stick to the original show and it’s first couple of seasons. I watched the new Walking Dead episode last night and was rather disappointed with that too.
Which TV shows would you recommend?
