Pregnancy – Weeks 16 – 18

I’m nearly 19 weeks as I write this but I wanted to write a little update about how things are going and share my latest midwife appointment before I completely forget.

I had my second midwife appointment last Friday, it was with a different lady who was covering my actual midwife while she was on holiday. This women was a misery! From the “greeting” of “Who are you?” she then told me off for not having a urine sample when I was never told to take them with me, Brent jumped to my defence to say no one had but she was such a misery about it. We heard the heartbeat again which was nice and she said everything was fine and after prodding me, said that I was the right size which was great. I told her about my migraines/headaches every day and my previous problems with high blood pressure in the past and she just said “It’s hormones, you’ll get them in menopause too” and pretty much pushed us out the door without even taking my blood pressure – *thumbs up*

My mum was worried and urged me to make a doctor’s appointment to get it checked. He had to take it twice to double check and said my blood pressure for me is fine but a normal pregnant women it is high and that I should see him every 2-3 months as well as my midwife. Well done midwife, you missed that!

For someone who is in such an incredible and exciting profession, being surrounded by people who are excited to be having their first or even third child, you would think that some of the happiness would rub off onto her…apparently not! I seriously hope I never have to deal with her again.

How far along? 18 weeks and 5 days as I write this.

Total weight gain: 6lbs. I’m back to my normal weight before I was pregnant. It’s a relief knowing I am finally putting weight on.

Maternity clothes? Still the same, just the maternity jeans. I love loose, simple clothing anyway so I’m still able to wear old clothes and new items I have bought will be fine after pregnancy too.

Cravings? Coke. Big time. I am not a pop person at all but all I want at the moment is coke. I’m strictly only having one every now and then though due to all the caffeine and wanting to protect my teeth.

Stretch marks? None yet, still slathering on the cream and oil.

Best moments this week? At 17 weeks I finally noticed a real bump that’s definitely noticeable now. Around 16.5 weeks, I felt my first flutter. I would describe it as a plopping sensation,  like something is rolling around, it’s such an odd but incredible feeling. Brent also played to my tummy which was really sweet (in picture) he’s also learning a lullaby on guitar so he can play it to the baby. He talks to he/she nearly everyday, it’s so lovely. Although once he was actually talking to my diaphragm before I corrected him ha!

Miss anything? Still pepperoni and beef jerky! Could eat my weight in beef jerky right now.

Movement? Since the first flutter, I have felt actual kicks already. I wasn’t sure at first but after googling on the NHS website, it is possible for women to feel movement already. I placed my hand on the area and felt it hit against my hand. Last night I put Brent’s hand there and he was so happy when he felt it, it was amazing.

Anything making you queasy or sick? Migraines are making me really sick. I’ve also had random vomiting incidents without warning. I’m fine all day and eating like normal, then I’m just randomly sick at night, it’s horrible.

Gender? Don’t know yet but I’m convinced it’s a boy.

Labour signs? None.

Symptoms? Had awful back ache the other day, to the point where just lifting my right leg to walk gave me shooting pains but I haven’t had that since. I’ve always had a problem with that area (not to this extreme) but I’m not too concerned.

Sleep? So so restless. I keep waking up on my back and I’m not supposed to be sleeping on my back anymore, then it takes me ages to get back to sleep.

Belly button in or out? In.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy, when I’m not suffering from a migraine that it!

Looking forward to? Finding out the gender! Less than two weeks away! Although I am convinced it’s a boy, it’s still so exciting because then we really can start preparing things properly and we are both dying to know.

How are you getting on in your pregnancy?

Thank you so much! It ruins the whole experience a bit when someone is miserable towards you, especially in the care profession like you said. Thank you, I’ve been ok today so far which is the first day in about a month without a headache! Aw 24 weeks already, it seems to go so quickly. Hope you have a lovely holiday! xx

These photos are so cute, I love them! Sucks that you had such an awful experience with this midwife, some people are just so miserable as you said. Hope you start feeling better soon and how exciting that you find out the gender in 2 weeks x

It’s soo annoying when a midwife is rude. I had my first appointments with an amazing midwife, but she changed jobs so I now see a different one every time I go for a check-up and so far I had no luck either. Good job my husband acts like a clown sometimes and it makes them less miserable.

Can’t wait to find out what you’re having and I hope you feel better soon.

That must be really frustrating always having a different midwife for each appointment. Brent tried to make a joke with this one and she didn’t even crack a hint of a smile! Misery! Thank you, I’ve been a lot better the past couple of days. I am so excited, I’m counting down the days. Hope you and baby girl are well xxx
