Manicure Must Haves

I’m not only obsessed with lip products – that I really don’t wear enough – but I’m also ridiculously obsessed with nail products, namely polishes. I check the Maybelline stand every time incase there is a new shade of their SuperStay polishes that I have missed. Although I have bought a newly spotted shade – silent cheer – I have recently been opting for naked nails, something I never thought I would do.

Growing up in school I was a serious nail bitter, my dance teacher would constantly tell me “Ballet dancers don’t bite their nails!” and my mum would get the stuff that tasted icky but I would still stand there chomping away. One day I suddenly stopped and after years of now looking after them and getting them to the stage they are at now, you will very very rarely see me nibbling them. I used to have to always wear a polish as that would cause me to stop biting as I didn’t want to ruin my new manicure but now I love my nails naked!

To remove old nail polish I use the Cutex Acetone Free remover as it’s more gentle on your nails and I also read that pregnant women should use an acetone free product instead. I don’t have the worst cuticles but to tidy things up a bit every now and again I use the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover. Once i’ve applied it, I use a pointy tool just to tidy the nail beds up, this product also leaves them feeling nourished. I them apply one of the best products I’ve ever used, the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. From just one application it leaves the nail beds soft and moisturised. Any dry cracks or rough skin is gone by morning and it smells amazing. This little pot is only £5.99 and lasts an incredibly long time as you hardly need anything. I love applying mine every night (when I remember) and also every time I do a fresh manicure.

To achieve strong healthy nails, I swear by the OPI Original Nail Envy polish. I’ve used it continuously for about four years now and it took my nails from soft, flimsy and brittle to healthy and super strong. This product is so overpriced in Boots so I’d definitely recommend checking out salons or other retailers. I get mine from a local beauty store for £12, in Boots it’s nearly £20! Finally I apply a good moisturising hand cream. I always try different ones but recently I’ve been loving the Soap & Glory Hand Food in the Sugar Crush scent. It smells incredible and leaves my skin feeling extremely soft and nourished without a greasy residue.
