I haven’t been disappointed with many products, this is the thirst post of it’s kind so far which is a good sign. However, I was going through my stash the other day and came across a couple of products that I hardly used because they didn’t impress me and one that I loved at first but changed my mind.
Simple Kind To Skin Moisturising Face Wash – Simple is a brand specifically made for sensitive skin, I’ve used their moisturiser when I was younger and also have used some of their face wipes over the years. I bought this travel size face wash for a trip, I think maybe for Rome last year but stopped using it because it was awful. I then tried it a couple more times recently and actually tweeted about how bad it was. It made my face bright red and had a horrible burning sensation. My skin felt incredibly dry and tight as well. I have to say, the experience has made me never want to use Simple again but I do want to try their new skin illuminator, however I just don’t think I trust the products. I can’t believe a brand that’s targeted at sensitive skin caused that reaction, I don’t even have sensitive skin it’s just dry.
Burt’s Bee’s Beeswax Lipbalm – I bought this last year and was so excited for it to come. When it arrived it took me about 15 minutes to get the darn thing open, the lid is so stiff! I tried to use it but barely any product comes off when you rub your finger in it to apply. I’ve hoped that over time it’s melted a bit but it’s still bad. I have to rub my finger in the pot at least 10 times just to get enough lipbalm on to one lip let alone both. It also isn’t that moisturising and it doesn’t last very long on the lips either. I think I will definitely be sticking to my Maybelline Babylips and Korres lip butters in the future.
YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum – When I first started using it, I really loved it. It made my skin feel really soft and smooth and my moisturiser and make-up all sat on top of it really well. Then I started using the Avené Soothing Hydrating Serum and came to realise that this one wasn’t actually anything special. For a fraction of the price I actually prefer the Avené one as it left my skin feeling hydrated all throughout the day whereas this one was more, “once applied it’s smooth but that’s your lot” type thing, it didn’t have any long term benefits. You also need a lot if you want to do all your face and neck properly so this small 15ml didn’t last long at all, I just don’t think it’s worth the price when you can buy the Avené one for less and achieve more. I still really want to try the Youth Liberator foundation though!
Have you tried any of these items? What were your thoughts on them?

Wow such a shame about the Simple face wash – I've used it for years and never had any problems!!

JosieYou're lucky! I wish it worked for me but it just didn't. Even the wipes cause me grief 🙁 xx

If you feel like getting rid of the YSL let me know, I really like it!
Claudia Stenhouse
Sara ThomasI used it all up i'm afraid, wanted to get a good feel about it. I did like it, just preferred the Avené one 🙂 xx

I've heard so many stories of people having horrible reactions to Simple products. It has definitely put me off trying them! Raspberrykiss xo

Shannon WilsonMe too, it' not good at all. xx

omg tin pots of lip balms always grind my gears! I always end up spending longer to try get the lid off rather than using it!!

I haven't tried any of these out, but it's a shame that the YSL serum is disappointing because it's so expensive! My dad uses Simple shampoo since he has a sensitive scalp, but otherwise, I haven't made a foray into the brand and this post doesn't make me want to either! x
Claudia Stenhouse
Michelle TI know, so expensive. Although it's good, I recommend the Avené one instead, a lot cheaper. xx

I haven't used the serum but i tried the youth liberator foundation and i didn't love that. I wish YSL would bring out a foundation with good coverage for combo skin! xx

On The Dressing TableOh no really? Oh dear 🙁 it looks so lovely. So far they all seem great for dry skin but that's it, not a great variety xx

I've always found that Burts Bees can be so overhyped, and I hate their jars too, I can never open them!

I used to be a huge fan of Burt's Bee's Beeswax Lipbalm until I realized it was this product that made my lips react! I agree, all of their products that come in a pot have a super stiff lid x

The last one is the type of experience I sometimes feel. Sometimes you think something is amazing but then find another product which feels just as good for a fraction of the price. I guess that is a good thing though in the long term 🙂
