Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick – Secret | Review & Swatches

Chanel is such a beautiful and elegant brand, it’s hard to not get sucked in. I’ve used the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation before and really loved it, I’ve just never repurchased it as I’ve been trying others instead. A Chanel lipstick, of any kind, has been on my wishlist for a while now and I’ve spent months going to the local stand, having a swatch and leaving empty handed. I don’t know if it’s my local counter but there seems to be hardly any shades available and they never really tickled my fancy.

I’m still going through my nude lips phase and stumbled across the gorgeous shade 85 Secret. It’s from the Rouge Coco Shine range which is described as a hydrating sheer lipshine. As gorgeous as YSL packaging is, I have to say I think I prefer Chanel’s for it’s sleek classic black tube, the trademark symbol on the lid, it’s just so elegant and everyone knows what the brand is. I’m even hoarding the box because I don’t want to throw it away – crazy hoarder.

As you can see from the swatches above, the colour provides a wash of nude across the lips with a subtle glossy finish, it’s perfect for any occasion and also everyday wear. In the bullet there’s tiny gold shimmer particles however once it’s on the lips, they are very hard to detect unless you are right up close to a mirror. Formula wise, it does what it says, it hydrates the lips all throughout the day leaving them smooth and appearing healthy all whilst having that pretty shine finish. This formula will be great in the summer as it’s hydrating and still provides a little colour. There’s no dragging on the lips when it’s applied and because of the shade, you can just apply it without a mirror. I don’t even need a lipbalm underneath, straight onto bare lips and it doesn’t show or sit in any dry patches. Being a shine, longevity isn’t as great as if it were a lipstick, maybe 1-2 hours, however for the formula and shade, I don’t mind at all…and of course whipping out this little beaut to reapply is just fun.

I am very impressed with this lipstick, I really can’t fault anything as the wear time doesn’t bother me – just take note if you like long lasting colours. At £25.00 each, it’s very expensive but at the time, I had £5.00 on my Debenhams card to use so therefore got it a little cheaper. I love the Coco Shine line and will most definitely be getting more shades in the future. Let the Chanel lipstick obsession commence….

Have you tried a Chanel lipstick? Which shades would you recommend?
